Unfortunately we haven't been blogging about the small updates we've been making to the house. I promise 2010 will be different. I decided to take the holiday weekend to share a few things we've done so far.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xE_d5B0cxt0/SzUKj5gXEqI/AAAAAAAAApo/VGMrA5Oto5k/s400/IMGP2102.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419249338458509986" />
When we moved into the house, the windows had aluminum blinds that were just disgusting. The blinds in the bathroom were so filthy that after showering it smelled like wet dirt. Definitely a nice smell when associated with spring rain but not so nice when you've just washed up. I made an attempt at cleaning them but it proved to be completely hopeless.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_xE_d5B0cxt0/SzUKtQwH32I/AAAAAAAAApw/j5jfmms3ocg/s400/IMGP2106.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419249499317460834" />
We decided to take our new Home Depot credit card for its first shopping trip to get some nice faux wood blinds. The windows are pretty large at 72 inches which made blinds a pricey but necessary first purchase. It was difficult to remove the old blinds, which I don't doubt were installed when the house was built, and Jake did a good amount of cursing but finally got the new ones installed.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_xE_d5B0cxt0/SzUK3wliqkI/AAAAAAAAAp4/JF5EY13Scgk/s400/IMGP2101.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419249679661705794" />
We decided to go with a bamboo shade for the bathroom because it seemed to fit well with the palm tree shower curtain and decor we have in there.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_xE_d5B0cxt0/SzULIwroPPI/AAAAAAAAAqA/g-IDijzM9JE/s400/IMGP2114.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5419249971745012978" />
It was a small step but definitely made a vast improvement.

Welcome to Wisteria Lane

Jake and I decided to buy a house because of a combination of reasons I'm sure everyone has read about in the news. So we got pre-approved for a loan, got a realtor, made a failed attempt at an awesome house and after seeing some terrible terrible houses felt like it was game over. Luckily, we found a nice place in a cozy north Austin neighborhood that was in decent shape and now we've been living there for about a month.
We decided to share our experiences as new home owners on this blog for everyone to see. Of course this house was built in 1962 and I'm sure much of it hasn't changed since then, so a lot of this blog will focus on our remodeling and updating work. We may even share a few "home movies" here and there.
And no, the name of the street is not Wisteria Lane. We just both appreciate a perfect suburban setting with a little suburban soap opera.
I hope many of you find something interesting in this blog or at the very least find something entertaining here.
